Wipotec strengthens its presence in Kaiserslautern

30 million euros for new technologies and buildings

Wipotec is investing 30 million euros in the expansion of its site in Kaiserslautern. A new building is currently being constructed on an area of 15,000 square meters, comprising three interconnected areas. The expansion includes a new machining department, an EMC hall for electromagnetic compatibility tests, an expanded electronics department and a rotary weighing area for fast weighing of parcels. The production of Weigh Cells, Wipotec's "core competence", is to be centralized.

The company, which employs around 1,200 people at 20 locations worldwide, is aiming for rapid further development of its weighing systems. The expansion should be completed by the end of next year. In addition, a recycling center will be built on the site to recycle or market materials. Wipotec is focusing on renewable energies, with a large battery storage facility and plans for photovoltaic systems and wind turbines.

Although turnover will stagnate at 170 million euros in 2023, Wipotec plans to remain at its main site in Kaiserslautern. The current reluctance of customers to invest in new machines is cited as the reason for the stagnation. Nevertheless, there is hope from new developments, such as the QR code business for Coca-Cola in Latin America.
